The LSU Center for Energy Studies (CES) is organizing an all day conference on natural gas issues and how the current crisis could impact the Louisiana and regional economies. The Conference is being co-sponsored by the Gordon and Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering. Congressman W.J. "Billy" Tauzin has been invited as the keynote speaker for the event.

The LSU-CES Natural Gas Conference is anticipated to cover a wide range of natural gas topics that include: the future natural gas supply and demand disposition in North America; issues associated with natural gas production in restricted basins; the opportunities for additional natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico; the impact that lawsuits are having on natural gas drilling and production in Louisiana; the future of liquefied natural gas (LNG); and the implications for supplying natural gas to residential and small commercial customers. The conference will also feature a special roundtable discussion on the impact that natural gas supplies and prices are having on Gulf Coast industries. Several senior executives from the region's petrochemical companies are expected to participate in the roundtable discussion.

The Natural Gas Conference will be held on Monday, 27 October 2003 at the Lod Cook Alumni Conference Center on the LSU campus.
