The Center for Energy Studies will host Chris John, president of the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association (LMOGA), Thursday, October 2, at 3 p.m. in the Woods Auditorium of the Energy, Coast & Environment Building. John will discuss "Our Future Energy Security -- Two Ways to Go," which will address the degree to which the U.S. should be dependent on foreign sources of oil, and how alternative energy sources can be integrated into the energy security equation. A brief reception will follow. The event, part of the Center's Energy Leadership Speaker Series, is free and open to the public, but RSVP is requested.

LMOGA represents all sectors of the oil and gas industry operating in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico. John was named president of LMOGA in September 2007. Previously, he was managing director of Ogilvy Government Relations in Washington, D.C., representing the firm's clients in matters dealing primarily with energy legislation in Congress. He is a Louisiana native and former congressman, representing southwestern Louisiana, the 7th Congressional District, from 1997 to 2005, in the United States House of Representatives. He is also a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, having served from 1987 to 1995, where his committee assignments included the House Natural Resources Committee.
