Sharon Cole

Sharon Cole LSU alumna Sharon Cole will be the guest speaker for the CES Energy Leadership Speaker Series May 5. Cole is site director of The Dow Chemical Company's Louisiana Operations, one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the state, with more than 3,000 employees and contract employees. Her topic will be "Dow's Perspective and Strategy on Energy Management Issues." Cole began her career at Dow in 1981 in the Louisiana Operations Chlor Alkali II plant.  She served in a variety of manufacturing roles in Chlor Alkali II, Chlorine, and Brine Mining & Storage before being named one of two manufacturing representatives on the Global Manufacturing Information System Architecture team in 1991. Cole moved into the Louisiana Operations Vinyl 2, VCM plant in 1992 and was named Production Leader in 1993. In 1997, she was named Technology Director for the Dow Ethylene Dichloride/Vinyl Chloride Monomer business and in 1999 assumed additional responsibilities for process research in that business.

In 2003, Cole moved into the Hydrocarbons & Energy business as Technology & Research Director for Light Hydrocarbons, Aromatics, Butadiene, and Alpha Olefins.  In 2004, research responsibilities reassigned allowing greater Tech Center focus on emerging technology, alternative feedstock, and mega project initiatives.  

Cole received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University in 1981 and is from the Baton Rouge area.
