Base Year: The gas severance tax is indexed with a seven cents floor. The base year was from April 1989 through March 1990 which set the base price at $1.7446/MMBTU and a base severance tax rate of $0.07/MCF.

April 1994 - September 2002 Severance Tax Rate Notes
- Official source was the Survey of Domestic Spot Market, as published by Dynergy, Inc., and earlier published by the Natural Gas Clearing House.
- Monthly Index: The Louisiana Natural Gas Severance Index price is the monthly average of spot prices (MMBTU) at seven Louisiana locations.
- Price Range: The lowest and highest monthly spot price (MMBTU) for the seven Louisiana locations.
- Annual Index: The annual index is computed by totaling the mean of the monthly averages for the period from April to the following March.
- NOTE:
- Following the release of the September 2002 prices, the official source for the spot market prices used to compute the Louisiana natural gas severance tax Gas Base Rate Adjustment, Dynergy, Inc., has ceased publication of the pricing information.
October 2002 - Present Severance Tax Rate Notes
- Official source for the monthly index price is the NYMEX futures settled price of the Henry Hub on the last day of trading for the next month's contract, as reported in the Wall Street Journal.
- Current Severance Tax Rate is measured at a base pressure of 15.025 pounds per square inch absolute and at a temperature base of 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
